Melanie Wotherspoon, who was camping nearby, witnessed the sinkhole engulfing vehicles.
“It was truly scary how fast it came into our camp site and swallowed it all up,” she wrote on Facebook.
Police and search and rescue teams cleared the campsite and later confirmed there were no injuries.
Expert geoscientists said recent earthquake activity was not the cause of the massive sinkhole which is near Fraser Island.
