Spotify is in talks with Warners, with Sony and Universal to follow Sony, reports The Verge, to reduce its royalty fees, the result of which could see it introduce its free streaming service to mobiles.
Spotify already pays smaller royalty cheques than other digital music providers such as iTunes, with some artists refysing to have their music available on the UK-based music platform – Coldplay, Metallica and AC/DC won’t be found there.
But the forthcoming talks with music’s big three labels could see Spotify renegoatiate its royalty deals further, with the new freedom allowing its free but ad-streaming music service available on mobile devices.
