The 6-4 victory breaks the NSW curse and has ended Queensland’s reign over their rivals, with the Blues taking an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
Hodkinson was very much the hero for the Blues with his only try of the match; his dummy tricking Daly Cherry-Evans allowing him to sneak past. He also converted.
It could have been different had it not been for Jarryd Hayne who saved the day early in the second half with a last ditch tackle forcing the ball from the Maroons’ Sam Thaiday just as he was about to score.
Earlier in the match, Cherry-Evans also had a great chance of scoring following a brilliant bit of play between Johnathan Thurston, who kicked two penalties, and Justin Hodges.
