The New York Daily News reports that the Las Vegas Erotic Heritage Museum has upped an earlier $250,000 offer for the GAP dress, which provided investigators with a vital piece of evidence during the so-called ‘Zippergate’ affair.
Lewinsky was a 22-year-old White House intern when she began her relationship with Clinton – the husband of 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton – in the mid-90s. Their illicit liaison hit the headlines in 1998 when Lewinsky claimed to have had sexual relations with Clinton nine times between 1995 and 1997 – allegations he initially swore to be false.
Lewinsky claimed that their relationship had involved oral sex but not intercourse – and she kept the blue dress which she said was stained with the president’s DNA.
She handed the dress over to Kenneth Starr’s investigation team in July 1998, and a blood sample was subsequently taken from Clinton. The FBI reported back that semen found on the dress was Clinton’s to “a reasonable degree of scientific certainty.”
Clinton later admitted in taped testimony to an “improper physical relationship” with Lewinsky, and confessed to the affair on television. He was subsequently impeached by the House of Representatives for perjury and obstruction of justice, but was acquitted by the Senate in February 1999.
It is not known whether Lewinsky, now 41, has accepted the sex museum’s offer for her dress, which it apparently wishes to include in an exhibition examining the private relationships of people in power.
