“The frozen Everyday Value Spaghetti Bolognese should contain only Irish beef from our approved suppliers,” said Tesco’s technical director Tim Smith.
“The level of contamination suggests that [French supplier] Comigel was not following the appropriate production process for our Tesco product and we will not take food from their facility again.
“We are very sorry that we have let customers down.”

The product is made in France by Comigel, with horses from Romania suspected of being used in the production of the meals.
Tesco withdrew the product from sale when concerns arose about similar Findus products, which had been produced by Comigel in France also.
