Yup, probably not your first choice if you were pushed to rank the best cities. But Canberra has been named the best city in the country.
Using statistical analysis of their own, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) has deduced that Canberra is the best place on earth to live.
The OECD used a selection of criteria to rank cities and other populous places on earth, in order to determine each destination’s suitability for living.
The areas taken in to consideration were education, jobs, income, safety, health, environment, civic engagement, accessibility to services, and housing. Using this as its basis for calculating the best places in the world in which to put up some sticks and call home, Australia came out top. And where in Australia came top within the nation? The ACT, which is pretty much Canberra.
“Life in Canberra is not a race to see who can acquire the most cash,” says local politician Andrew Leigh, who is federal member for the seat of Fraser and who has been singing the praises of the city for quite some time while taking the odd swipe at the bigger and more popular cities – let’s just say it, the cooler cities – of the country.
So there you have it ladies and gents – you can forget Sydney, you have no reason anymore to marvel at Melbourne, Adelaide be damned – Canberra is where it is at!
