Roddy Doyle’s version of his 1987 novel set in working-class Dublin proves little more than a jukebox musical in terms of plot and character, but the talented young cast sing up a storm of Sixties’ soul. Killian Donnelly is sensational as obnoxious lead singer Deco, wolfing downchips as he belts out a Marvin Gaye classic.
