There will be giant puppets, live music, dancing, and creative outfits galore.

Anyone not wearing a costume won’t be allowed in, and judging by the crew pictured above, wearing an old bed sheet and claiming to be a ghost just isn’t going to cut it.

Why: The Village Halloween Parade has been going strong since it was founded back in 1974. Since then, the event has transformed into a carnival, rather than the theatrical event it started life as.

Over 60,000 costumed participants and two million spectators will line the mile-long parade this year.

Do it because: Those with the most creative costumes could find themselves televised to millions of spectators – it’s worth making an effort.

This year’s theme is ‘Tick! Tock!’, which represents the end of the world. It’s bound to be a show-stopper.
