The new mobile service captures up to 6 seconds of video and puts it on a loop, much like a GIF file. That little snippet gets repeated over and over, giving a little insight into the lives of folks who think a photo isn’t quite enough to capture the moment.
‘Vine is the best way to see and share life in motion. Create short, beautiful, looping videos in a simple and fun way for your friends and family to see.’ says the official description on the Apple iTunes store.
“Posts on Vine are about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger,” explained Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann on the official company blog “They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special.”
Vine was aquired by Twitter in October 2012 before it was launched. There is currently no Android version of Vine, but iPhone users can download it here.
