Reported sightings of alien visitors are down, and despite years and years of interest, fascination and study into UFOs, no evidence has ever been uncovered.

All of which has prompted one of the country’s premier organisations involved in the search for UFOs to call a meeting to consider the future of Ufology (the study of UFOs).

Chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (Assap) Dave Wood says Ufology might be “a thing of the past” in ten years time, The Telegraph reports.

“We look at things on the balance of probabilities and this area of study has been ongoing for many decades,” Wood said.

“The lack of compelling evidence beyond the pure anecdotal suggests that on the balance of probabilities that nothing is out there.”

Many sightings are easily explained, Wood reasons, adding that the primary focus for UFO enthusiasts now is cases that are decades old rather than those concerning new sightings.

Assap’s cases have gone down 96% since 1988 despite the technological developments that have seen an increase in mobile phones with cameras and which would, logically, have meant it more likely for evidence to have been obtained.
