Forecasters predicted that the jet stream will change course soon, bringing drier and warmer weather.

The UK’s washout summer so far – this year has seen the wettest April to June period since records began – is down to the unusually southerly location of the jet stream, experts say.

If the jet stream moves further north, as is predicted, it will bring on the sunshine in time for the Olympics.

BBC weather forecaster Cecilia Daly said that a build up in pressure will “allow our weather to take on more normal summer characteristics”.

Fingers crossed Cecilia’s right.
