The new online course is a partnership between US TV company AMC and the University of California, with the course linked specifically to the show.
It will consider issues such as “post-disaster nutrition, the foundations of human survival and stereotypes in a Darwinian environment,” said university professor Biz Zuzana in a statement.
The show is the first of its kind to be directly linked to a specific show.
Despite cynics criticising the course for its academic quality, AMC vice president Theresa Beyer has said that the course will offer a “legitimate educational experience.”
The show, whose fourth series premieres next month, has been a critical and commercial hit, telling of a band of survivors after a zombie apocalypse has decimated the world.
It stars British actor Andrew Lincoln (below).
