Appearing on the show to promote his latest standup world tour, Messiah Complex, motormouth Brand grabbed control of the interview.
Mockingly asking “is this what you do for a living?” Brand gives up being the interviewee and decided to launch into the role of a TV presenter, bringing up hot button current news stories of whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning.
“You’ve got like Princess Diana…when she was alive,” he told Mika Brzezinski, who inexplicably starts to refer to him as ‘Willy’ and ‘he’ rather than using his name.
Brand lays into the interviewer and co-hosts for ‘objectifying’ him and referring to his appearance and accent rather than important issues or a proper discussion.
Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman said the presenters had treated Brand ‘like shit’.
Were the presenters being rude or was this just breakfast TV fluff that went a little haywire? You decide.
Brand isn’t the only one to have clashed with Morning Joe presenter Brzezinski in recent days – journalist Glenn Greenwald who broke the Edward Snowden story, was interviewed on the show last week. He accused Brzezinski of taking the side of the government by using “White House talking points.”
