While some of you might not have heard of him, the 19-year-old, a wild card ranked No.144, beat Jiri Vesely 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday to set up a round of 16 clash with Spanish legend and world No. 1 Rafael Nadal.
It wasn’t without luck – a huge rain delay helped a lot – and he had a lot of backing from a crowd dotted with brightly-dressed Australians.
He’s got a great reward though and good luck to him. The Aussie, dubbed the ‘next big thing’ by Andy Murray, has stormed through the first three rounds at Wimbledon, stealing headlines on Thursday after he saved an astonishing nine match points to oust No.13 seed Richard Gasquet, to announce himself as a future star of the game.
Australia’s last Grand Slam men’s champion was Lleyton Hewitt who won Wimbledon in 2002.
