The video footage has been watched more than 11 million times on Youtube and resulted in 34-year old West being charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, which she denies.

The video, in which a woman is seen screaming racist abuse at passengers on a Croydon tram, was shown in court.

As it played, West broke down in tears and ducked out of view of the public gallery. She was surrounded by friends and family.

After the video was played to the, the court clerk asked West, of New Addington, how she wanted to plead.

“Not guilty,” she said.

Emma West was remanded in custody as she has been denied bail over fears of revenge attacks. She was arrested last Monday after the ‘My Tram Experience’ footage was posted on YouTube.
