Now magistrates have ordered Paul Bennett to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register after a horrified female onlooker saw him make his special delivery at Scholes Precinct, in Wigan.

Bennett, 45, was spotted walking towards the postbox with his trousers down and making “sexual advances towards it”, a court heard. He then rubbed himself against the postbox while holding his hands in the air in a star position, and shouting “wow”.

After this he pulled his trousers up and swung on a lamppost before looking at a reflection of himself in a window.

Katie Beattie, prosecuting, told Wigan and Leigh magistrates: “The victim was alarmed by his behaviour. The victim rang the police. She was disgusted by his behaviour.”

When police arrived they found Bennett exposing himself again. He was arrested, and launched into a foul-mouthed tirade as he was led away.

Martin Jones, defending, said: “Clearly there are issues that need to be addressed.”

Bennett, of Holborn Avenue, Wigan, admitted two counts of indecent exposure and using threatening and abusive words with abusive behaviour. In addition to being told to sign the Sex Offenders’ register, Bennett was handed a 12-month community order with an alcohol treatment and supervision requirement. He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to the victim, £150 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
