Ella was kicked off the show last night after finding herself in the bottom two along with James Arthur, despite her obvious talent and impressive popularity.

Cowell simply tweeted: “Ella! Gone? Unbelievable”, with many other stars voicing their disapproval.

“Wtf is going on” chimed Made In Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh, and One Direction’s Nial Horan tweeted simply “Oh my god! Cannot believe what just happened on xfactor! What the hell”.

Ella though maintained her composure when she was interviewed on ITV’s Daybreak this morning, and kept her dignity unlike Rylan Clark who blubbed uncontrollably on the show’s spin off The Xtra Factor when asked about Ella’s rejection and his continued involvement in the competition.

Saturday’s X Factor was 2million down on Strictly Come Dancing, its BBC rival, though, in the bitter ratings war waged between the two shows.
