X Factor’s Cher Lloyd wants to be called Cher-L, but mentor Cheryl Cole is unsurprisingly not keen on the idea.
Show bosses are already preparing X Factor contestant Cher to become a global popstar once the series has finished. But first of all, they think she needs a new, catchier name.
According to The Sun, X Factor heads don’t want the 16-year-old to only use her first name as that could cause confusion with the American super star Cher (‘I Got You Babe’, ‘Believe’). They are also not keen on including her surname Lloyd, but are instead looking for something a bit more edgy that fits Cher’s fiery persona.
A show insider said: “She can’t be known as Cher so the idea of Cher-L came up – but her mentor didn’t like it as it was so similar to her own name.”
“Cher loves Cheryl and values her input and ideas but it doesn’t look like she’ll get her way on this one.”
The reason the Girls Aloud singer dislikes Cher’s proposed artist name is said to be that it sounds too similar to her own.
The two songbirds already have a lot in common, and their similarities are constantly being talked about on the show and in the press.
The source continued: “Cher has already been called a mini-Cheryl and now she could end up with almost the same name.
Why don’t you ladies stop fighting over a silly little name and just call yourselves the CC-Pops! Problem solved.
