The talismanic Swedish striker was at his imperious best in the international friendly against an admittedly understrength England side. Roy Hodgson handed debuts to three players; with Steven Caulker, Raheem Sterling and Leon Osman all winning their first caps, whilst England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard celebrated his 100th appearance for his country.
In truth though the night belonged completely to PSG’s brilliant forward, who looked to have sown the game up when he scored his hat-trick in the 78th minute.
Despite this the travelling English fans still tried to get under Ibrahimovic’s skin with chants of “You’re just a s**t Andy Carroll!” but the Swedish goal machine was saving his best for last.
Just check this out…
An innocuous looking long ball up towards Ibrahimovic was cleared weakly by England goal-keeper Joe Hart (who certainly didn’t have his best night in goal for the Brit’s) who then turned, chasing the high bouncing ball with his back to goal threw himself into the air and produced one of the most spectacular lobbed finishes possibly in the history of the game.
To call it a bicycle kick, whilst technically accurate, takes away from just how spectacular a finish it really was.
The former Barcelona, Inter and AC Milan striker who joined big spending French outfit PSG for around €20 million in the summer has already hit the ground running with his new club, netting 10 times in 9 games in League 1.
By the looks of his performance last night there’s a few goals still left in him.
