What’s your new show, The One, about?

I’m a 21st-century one-man band in search of the ultimate song, the ultimate high, the ultimate night out ... it’s exciting. And funny. And loud. I’ve put everything into it – it’s a big year for me.

What is it about authority that irks you?

It’s innate; I just won’t be told. It doesn’t have to be a recognised authority – it’s as likely to be an advert or my mum as the police or, like, the government.

Who’s your comedy idol?

I don’t have one. I’m a magpie – Steve Martin, You’ve Been Framed – whatever’s making me laugh. Early Steve Martin, obviously.

What event would you compete in at the Olympics?

Distance running – I love it, like Forrest Gump, and I could run out of the stadium and far away to wherever the people that couldn’t give a monkey’s toss about the Olympics are hiding.
