Australian Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s bid to win over the public took a bizarre turn on breakfast radio when he warned listeners to Nova FM that he’d “probably be too much of a grog-monster” to attend an Australia Day boat party run by their station.
Read that again if you like, but it’ll still be real.
Abbott was chatting with Sydney based Fitzy and Wippa when they were disappointed he wasn’t going to join their Aussie battler boat party.
"I'd probably be too much of a grog-monster for you fellas," the potential Prime Minister joked.
When Wippa asked his if he’d "tip a few in" on Saturday in honour of the national day, Abbott’s response was: "Look, only after about 6 o'clock in the evening. I try to go easy ‘til nightfall."
His flippant remarks come after a debate on whether it’s “un-Australian” or not to refuse to hit the piss.
A New Limited survey found 28 per cent of Gen Yers thought sinking a tinnie was inherently Aussie.
