The winners of a prestigious young entrepreneurs competition were announced last night at an exclusive ceremony at London’s Australia House.
Alex Bloomfield, 26, scooped the outstanding individual competitor in Australian Business The Challenge, winning an honorary position on the board plus two Qantas return flights to Australia.
The winning team award was handed to Bloomfield, of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Anna Donovan of Wingrave Yeats, Theo Lomas, a UK Parliamentary Researcher, and Triona Maddick of Douglas Richards.
The successful competitors won a £500 voucher for Westfield London after staging a successful networking event for young professionals which they had six weeks to organise. They wowed the judges with their The Future Leaders Fete event in July where businesses showcased innovative ideas and products.
Receiving the award last night, Bloomfield, of Lancashire, said of the experience:
“It’s real life – you have to pull something out of the bag. We had tears and arguments – but we all learnt from it.
“I’m really excited about the experience I can gain and the contributions I can make to the Australian Business Board over the next 12 months.”
Judges for the competition, which was sponsored by TNT Magazine, included Richard Farleigh, ex-panellist from TV series Dragons’ Den and successful investor and Michael Lynagh, former Captain of the Australian Wallabies and Director of Adstream.
Australian-born Farleigh said: “It was a great competition with serious contenders, but overall there was no denying that team two deserved the winning place as they delivered an excellent event with innovative ideas and showed tremendous business acumen in the process.”
Philip Aiken, Chairman of Australian Business, the Challenge series concept founder and organiser said, “The Challenge is a remarkable opportunity for young professionals like the members of team two to demonstrate and develop their strengths to a broad business audience.”
