It was Australia’s only entry in the travel site’s Travel Choice Awards for Attractions Top 25, coming in at an impressive 17th place on the global list, based on the opinions of travellers from across the world.

The list included places like Machu Picchu, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Angkor Wat and Taj Mahal.

And of the South Pacific category, Australia took 18 of the top 25 spots, while its parks also came in for praise, with Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth ranking number six in the world.

WA minister for the environment and heritage Albert Jacob said: “We are thrilled to not only be ranked sixth in the world in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for Attractions, but also to read the amazing reviews posted on TripAdvisor by visitors from all over the world every day. Kings Park is a place of inspiration, relaxation, recreation and wonder; something we proudly share with interstate and overseas visitors.”
