Former Haringey children’s services director Sharon Shoesmith is supporting the pair in in their action.
A 2010 Industrial Tribunal found that Gillie Christou and Maria Ward had been fairly dissmissed because of the failings in the care they provided.
However lawyers for Christou and Ward are expected to cite the Court of Appeal case against Shoesmith which exonerated her, and found that Children’s Secretary Ed Balls acted in a way that was “procedurally unfair” when he initiated proceedings which saw her removed from her post and dismissed without compensation.
Peter Connelly, who became known as Baby P in the media, was found dead in his cot in 2007 with more than 50 injuries.
His mother Tracey Connelly, her boyfriend Steven Barker, and their lodger Jason Owens were found guilty of causing or allowing his death.
Ward was Peter’s nominated social worker from February 2007 until his death, while Christou was her team manager.
Ward and Christou were initially sacked after an investigation discovered that there was a period during 2007 when they did not know where Peter was.
They admitted failing to ensure Peter was visited regularly and not keeping adequate records on him at a General Social Care Council disciplinary meeting.
Christou and Ward claim they been tried for the same incident twice, after they faced two Haringey misconduct panels investigating the same claims against the pair.
