It comes just months after the council managed to evict travellers from Dale Farm – the UK’s largest illegal traveller site – following a decade-long battle.
At least 50 caravans are believed to have pitched up next to the now-empty Dale Farm site. The land they are on is a legal site, but the number of caravans that are now on it is thought to exceed the authorised capacity.
The council stated today that half of the caravans on the site are in breach of planning permission and will be served with eviction notices.
Those notices are expected to be served by the end of the month and will give travellers 28 days to vacate the land.
Asked how long he expected the renewed battle to last, council leader Tony Ball said: “It will take as long as it takes.”
