The 29-year-old New Zealand Kiwis international admitted to Fairfax Media that he’s “just an average rugby player” after struggling to get on the park for the Blues.
“My lack of the technical aspects of rugby union was what was letting me down and I felt like I was playing rugby league on a rugby field with 14 other rugby players,” Marshall said.
“But I definitely don’t regret it because I have got everything I wanted to get out of it except the performance on the field, which just hasn’t worked out the way I wanted it to.”
Marshall’s manager Martin Tauber is now negotiating a release from his Blues contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union and aiming to find playmaker a new club in the 13-man-a-side code.
Clubs including St George Illawarra, South Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have been mentioned as possible homes for Marshall, but the salary cap auditors will be watching any deal closely as he won’t come cheaply.
