Sweet as news, folks – Kiwi-owned cafe Long White Cloud, which has been educating east Londoners’ palates on Hackney Road one proper coffee at a time – is now open for evening meals.
There are pie nights, Mexican nights and burger nights every week, with all mains coming in at under £10 and all food free range, fair trade and locally sourced. Hankering for a taste of home? Long White Cloud stocks the likes of Jet Planes, Giant Toasties and L&P, too.
Street eats indoors
Islington pub The Lexington has come up with the perfect solution for the particularly lazy gourmand – every Saturday until July 13, the Lexington Kitchen Project brings the best of London’s street food off the tarmac and into its cosy surrounds, so you can taste the toast of the city’s scene with the added bonus of a comfy seat.
This weekend sees twice-fried chicken from Mother Clucker, and Luardos Mexican the weekend after. Other treats lined up include Tongue N Cheek, Butty Man and tapas from Donostia Social Club.
Green and gold
Aussie Prue Freeman has found a permanent home for her high-quality coffee, healthy homemade food and gourmet frozen yoghurt crusade, Daisy Green, in Portman Village just off Oxford Street. A response to her shock that in London, “Starbucks was the accepted and Nero the gourmet”, you can expect uncomplicated and organic “homemade Aussie delights”.
