Britain’s most gridlocked road, in London’s Clapham, is congested for 92 hours a week, a survey has revealed.

Rush hour now lasts for up to three hours says in-car navigation company TomTom, whose survey shows that traffic becomes ‘significant’ from as early as 5.30am on major roads.

Bedford Road in Clapham tops the list of the country’s most hellish routes and is jammed with cars for an average of 13 hours a day.

The list of Britain’s 25 worst roads is topped by 12 routes which are all clogged for 84 hours a week, or 12 hours a day.

TomTom’s proposed a ‘manifesto’ to reduce jams, suggesting that its sat-nav devices could save a driver up to 15 hours a year.

In the meantime, best take some deep breaths before you get in that car…
