A 20-year-old Singaporean student died in a tragic hit and run accident in north London on her birthday.

The woman, who has not been named, was found lying on the road with fatal injuries in Haverstock Hill, close to Belsize Park tube station, about 2am on Thursday.

Investigators believe the woman was hit outside the Royal Free Hospital, in Pond Street, about a mile away and may have been dragged for up to a mile.

The Evening Standard reported that detectives were today examining CCTV footage in an attempt to trace a lorry driver, who they said may not have known the woman had been hit.

Officers were also looking at footage from a shop near the station that showed a black saloon car braking suddenly outside at around the time of the collision.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the police on 020 8998 5319
