What do you do?
I work for CWPG, in the Angel Islington, North London. We publish initiatives for mostly governmental organisations, helping them to position themselves in the marketplace, and helping client organisations connect with the audiences they create. My job title is Sales and Business Development, which essentially means I spend a lot of my day talking on the phone, introducing our client organisations to potential partners and brokering deals on their behalf.
What does your job entail?
Presenting business opportunities over the phone to companies in relevant verticals, this could be as simple a joining the dots between home movers and home insurers or matching regulatory bodies to document management facilities.
What’s the best bit?
Talking with interesting CEO’s. The heads of large organisations didn’t get there by thinking in the same way as the crowd and they tend to be pretty interesting people. The paycheque is pretty good too!
And the worst?
You have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your princess. LOL
How did you get your job?
I answered an ad in TNT.
What qualifications/experience do you need?
You’ve got to have a bit of authority in your voice; PA’s don’t put kids through to MD’s. You’ve also got to be able to see the sweet bit of the deal, for both [or sometimes all three], sides. Positioning ideas is both challenging and rewarding, sometime what seems obvious to us, just isn’t to others, it means you have to be able to abandon the ‘obvious’ and see things through new eyes. The training program is a good start, but as with most things you learn a lot more by doing stuff than talking about it.
What advice would you give someone who would like a job such as yours?
Put your best foot forward and ring up and ask. Adrian the recruiting guy is a nice fella.
