The poll by Children’s Food Trust has revealed a change in many kids’ packed lunch boxes as families adjust to the harsh economic times, with many not getting the proper food they should.

As much as 68.1 per cent of adults working with children say they have seen a growth in the number of families who are struggling to feed their children over the course of the last two years.

Some children just come to school with ‘a packet of biscuits’ one person told the Trust as part of the poll, while another said that sometimes kids only get margarine in their sandwiches.

Another said there were “fewer processed items … in some ways it is healthier but some families only give cold cooked rice or cold chips with fish fingers or similar.”

As much as 84.6% of those who agreed to take part in this survey said that they had seen children who did not have enough to eat during the day.
