Regan Matthews says a waiter asked her to stop breastfeeding her infant child. She responded that it was illegal to be told to stop breastfeeding. The manager than approached her and supposedly told her to stop, citing, “it’s offensive.” Matthews says she asked the cafe’s other customers if they were bothered, to which they replied they were not. It is said the manager then continued to berate her and mumble under her breath.
The incident got lots of attention on Facebook, and nursing mothers even staged a nurse-in protest at the cafe. The cafe’s owner apologized for the incident, twice online adn once in a private email to Matthews.
”We at Satellite are not mother-haters nor children-haters, however, when complaints are received on any matter, we do have a duty to act on them,” it said.
