Changing the Air Conditioning Filter
Changing the filter in your air conditioning unit is key to keeping it working efficiently for as long as possible, as well as making sure it filters out plenty of dust and debris particles from the air. But don’t worry if you don’t know how to change them – it’s easier than it looks and companies like Filter King make easy guidelines for their products. All you need to do is identify where the filter is located in the system by checking the user manual and then making sure that the arrows on the side of the new filter are aligned correctly when placing the filter back in so that the air blows through properly.
Removing Mould from the Ceiling or Walls
Before you go to the trouble of repainting the ceiling or walls where mould has occurred, try a DIY trick of spraying the area with a mix of bleach and water and wait a day or two. The mould often disappears by the next day and it works on both flat and textured ceilings too. Use a solution of ten percent bleach to water.
Fixing a Blocked Drain
Most clogged drains are caused by a build up of grease or starch in kitchens or hair in bathrooms. But they can be cleared without the need for professional help or even chemicals in many cases. The first step to unblock a drain is to unscrew the pivot rod retaining nut on the drain setup underneath the sink and pull out the stopper so you can clean the drain. Another alternative is to use a plunger to clear the blockage.
Leaking Washing Machines
Ignoring a leaking washing machine could leave you with a flood in your kitchen or laundry room, no matter how small it might be to begin with. Before you call in help, check the water hoses connected to the back of the machine as the leak is likely to be coming from here. They may be a small crack in the rubber of the hose – if this is the case, the hoses will need to be replaced. Turn off the water supply and then install a new hose by unscrewing the old hose and tightening the new one on with a wrench.
Replacing a Blown Fuse
A blown fuse is easy to identify, as a fault with the fuse or from an overloaded circuit will cause the whole fuse to blow. This shows you that there is a problem and it will cut off the power to the circuit so that it’s safe when you repair it. For modern cartridge fuses, all you need to do is remove the old fuse and replace it will a new one between the two metal holders in the carrier – check rating is correct for your appliance or system.
