It is believed that the snake escaped from its enclosure in the pet store in New Brunswick, Canada, and made its way through the ventilation system to the apartment above, where it killed two young boys aged five and seven.
“It’s very unusual and very tragic and difficult for everyone involved,” said Royal Canadian Police Constable Julie Rogers-March to the Associated Press.
“I can tell you it’s a criminal investigation right now to determine if any criminal act is responsible for the death of the two boys.” said Campbellton police spokesman Alain Tremblay, according to CBC News.
The snake was an African rock python which escaped at some point during the Monday night where it made its way to the apartment above where the two boys were sleeping. It is believed to have killed the boys by strangling them.
