Uefa Euro 2020 will be staged across the continent, in various major cities, following a decision taken today,” Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino said in a press conference yesterday.
“The response has been extremely positive from all the national associations.”
The championship is usually held in one or two countries, every four years, but the tournament in eight years time will be held across the continent as a ‘Euros for Europe’, as Uefa president Michel Platini has described.
Wembley may be in contention for the final, with other cities in Wales and Scotland expressing interest in being involved.
The decision though has drawn criticism from some, who fear that staging the competition across the whole continent will require large amounts of travelling for fans.
