Elle Macpherson’s personal trainer reveals how simple it is to get a body like the supermodel’s.
Not only is it achievable, but you could be sporting a celebrity-fit body in just a month.
Don’t just take our word for it.
The personal trainer behind Elle ‘The Body’ Macpherson’s enviable physique tells us it’s “absolutely” possible.
So, if you’re starting to struggle with your “get fit” new year resolution, or you’ve tried everything to shift those last few pounds yet nothing seems to work, read on.
With 47-year-old Elle looking as stunning as she does, it’s no wonder James Duigan has a reputation as one of the best trainers in the world.
Hailing from Adelaide, Australia, Duigan has been working with the supermodel for 15 years.
He’s written a book – The Clean And Lean Diet – and is one of the brains behind Bodyism in South Kensington – a concept that uses diet and exercise to get great celebrity bodies.
Duigan says: “We can’t make you taller, but we can definitely make you look as good as you can.
“We can get you lean. We concentrate on building strength which looks beautiful.
“More often than not, the biggest obstacles are in our head. One of the mantras we live by is transform your body by starting in your head – it’s important to be committed.
“If you make a half-arsed effort, you’ll get half-arsed results. You need to eat lean and clean. Once you get that right, everything else falls into place. It’s not fat that makes you fat, it’s sugar.”
Duigan also believes dieting is a waste of time – great news if you’re reading this while munching on cardboard-flavoured snacks. He says: “I’ve spent years studying nutrition and observing my clients – and I know this for certain.
“Sure, you can live on processed low-fat food and diet colas to lose weight. But your body will be so toxic that you’ll find it hard to keep the weight off.
“People come to me who have been dieting for years. They cut carbs, they count calories, they ban whole food groups and they spend their lives weighing and measuring out food.
“But this type of dieting is a complete waste of time; it might help you to drop a dress size, but you’ll gain it back again eventually because your body will still be toxic. My approach is different.
There are no crazy rules, no measuring out food, no counting calories and nothing is banned.
Here are Duigan’s top five tips for how to lose weight and get healthy:
- Make the commitment
- Cut out wheat and sugar
- Find the exercise that works best for you
- Eat clean and lean – no processed foods
- Stretch before bed, it’ll help you get a flat tummy
8-minute body workout
Hip extension: Great for bottom and lower back
- Lie on your back with your knees bent and heels on the ground and your toes pointing up.
- Lift your hips off the ground 20 times. Don’t let your bottom touch the ground on the way down.
- With your hips still lifted (your body should be in a straight line off the floor), raise one knee up and lower it 10 times. Repeat the same thing with the other knee lifted.
The squat: This sculpts your legs, bum and tum
- Contract your stomach muscles.
- Take a comfortable stance, keeping your feet shoulder-width apart, wider if necessary.
- Cross your arms and hold them parallel to the floor.
- Point your toes out slightly and make sure your knees stay aligned with your second toe. Do not fall forwards or inwards when squatting.
- Keep your weight in your heel.
- Keeping your heels on the floor, lower until your thighs are parallel with the floor. Stick your butt out.
- Go as low as you comfortably can while maintaining perfect posture (straight back, ears over shoulders).
- Push up through your heels and return to a standing position.
