Police are currently investigating what happened tonight at 9.30pm (Aus time) on the Gold Coast.
Apparently, medics tried to resuscitate the girl with CPR at the scene but they were unsuccessful. The police are urging witnesses to come forward with information.
“We have no further information at this stage. We’re trying to ascertain what’s happened,” Inspector Swindells from the local authorities said to Courier Mail.
“It’s a tragic end to a successful week.”
One school-leaver wrote a post on Facebook: “Someone just jumped off the Chevron balcony 2 floors down from us! Can Freaking see them and oh god paramedics everywhere and the building is in lockdown. This is as scary as hell.”
The Schoolies festival, for school-leavers, takes place every year for graduates in Australia. Around 30,000 people head to Surfers Paradise for the event.
The police have warned other school-leavers to take care when celebrating this week. Some balconies in the area have been closed while people are celebrating.
