Daniel Tranter came home like a freight train to win gold in the men’s 200m individual medley as the Commonwealth Games swimming programme wrapped up on day six.
Cate Campbell added another medal to her carry on after anchoring the women’s medley relay with Emily Seebohm, Lorna Tonks and Emma McKeon ahead of England.
McKeon remarkably finished her debut Comm Games with four gold and two bronze medals.
The places were reversed however in a race the Aussies would have expected to win in a remarkable performance from the English who managed to hold of a flying finish from James Magnussen.
Other Aussie golds came from the shooting range again, with David Chapman winning the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at his third Games, while Adam Vella won the men’s single trap.
He won the Ashes battle in a shoot-off with England’s Aaron Heading hitting 11 of 15 targets to his opponents 9 from 15 in tough conditions.
Australia now have 34 gold, 31 silver and 36 bronze to England’s 33 gold, 33 silver and 27 bronze in a total of 93 medals.
Canada is in third with 16 gold, five silver and 18 bronze in the total 39, while Scotland extended on their best games ever with another gold today for their 13th in a total of 37 medals with New Zealand next in line with 11, 9 and 11 in their total of 31.
