The Golden Globes nomination list is out for the 86th annual Golden Globes Awards, to be held in January 2011, and it’s dominated in film categories by The King’s Speech and in TV by American musical hit Glee.
The King’s Speech, a film about King George VI’s battle to cure his stammer, has been nominated in seven categories including Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Director. Three of the film’s actors – Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush – have been nominated for their performances.
Mega-popular TV show Glee also cleaned up at the Golden Globe nominations,
with five nods, including Best Comedy or Musical TV Series.Hot on the heels of the King’s Speech come The Social Network and The Fighter, with six Golden Globe nominations each.
The Social Network, a biopic of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, received a Best Actor nod for its star Jesse Eisenberg.
The Fighter, a film about professional boxing, starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale received several nominations for acting.
Another major contender in the Golden Globes 2011 is Black Swan which has four nominations, including one for its star, Natalie Portman.
Johnny Depp has been nominated for Best Actor in Motion Picture and for his performance in The Tourist. Angeline Jolie has also been nominated for Best Actress in The Tourist.
The winners of the Golden Globes 2011 will be announced at a ceremony hosted by Ricky Gervais on January 16.
