Duncan, who was Oscar nominated for his role in the 1999 film The Green Mile opposite Tom Hanks, passed away on Monday morning in Los Angeles. He had been receiving treatment for a heart attack in July of this year, from which he never fully recovered. 

His fiancée Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth (pictued above with Clarke Duncan in February of this year) was with him in the hospital at the time of his death, leaving the room for a short moment to find on her return that he had passed. 

“I am devastated, He was the love of my life,” she has said to US website Radar.

Tom Hanks, Clarke Duncan’s co-star in The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont’s 1999 prison movie, has said of the news: “I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike. He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile. He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned.”

Clarke Duncan starred in such films as Armageddon, Daredevil and Planet of the Apes, but was bets known for his role in The Green Mile, in which he played a prison inmate with magical powers.
