Brit Hamilton cruised to the chequered flag at the Yas Marina Circuit while his only rival, team mate Nico Rosberg, struggled with his car.

The German’s team wanted to pack it in for the day but Rosberg insisted on finishing the race, even if it was in 14th place.

Again Hamilton started behind Rosberg in second on the grid but again it was he crossing the line in first.

It’s the first time Hamilton’s won the title since 2008.

“This is the greatest day of my life,” the 29 year-old said.

“2008 was a great year in my life. The feeling I have now is way, way past that. The greatest feeling ever.”

Hamilton now joins Jim Clark and Graham Hill as Britons with two F1 titles and is one behind Sir Jackie Stewart.

After senior members of his team congratulated Hamilton on the win, Prince Harry was handed the radio.

He said: “Lewis, well done for not making the British public sweat. You are an absolute legend.”

On his return to the pits Hamilton was greeted by girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger and his family.
