The average age of residents must be about 90 – weathered folk who sit weaving baskets in the shade of their doorways and are dressed from head-to-toe in wool despite the searing heat. Staying in this rustic-chic B&B is about as refreshing as it gets, and it’s smack-bang at the beginning of a section of the Via Algarviana hiking trail.
Wow factor: Everything here is brand-new and modern, while retaining a strong sense of the traditional country house. The breakfast spread put on by owner Judith is an orgy of homemade bread, cheeses and jams – exceptional.
Rooms: The split-level rooms are huge, with stone walls, lots of snuggy blankets, wood-burner and ensuite.
Bill please: An absolute steal at £26pn, B&B.
