Start a snail hotel a few miles away? Pop them at the end of the garden in the hope they won’t crawl back? Leave them be?
Well, a shocking new survey from the Royal Horticultural Society has revealed that a fifth of British gardeners just chuck unwanted snails over the wall into their neighbours’ gardens. What a slimy lot.
Londoners were the most likely to be snail-throwers, as 30% admitted they’d done it, and Scots were the least likely to, as only 14% said they’d consider lobbing a snail over a fence.
According to the RHS, snails and slugs are the most common garden pests, closely followed by sugar-fuelled toddlers and wasps*.
