Former Children in Need chairman Sir Rodger Jones, OBE didn’t hold back in his statement during an interview with BBC Wales, labelling Savile “a creepy sort of character…we took the decision that we didn’t want him near the charity”

“A charity like Children In Need knew the biggest thing to guard against was paedophiles. They were just like flies around the honey pot.”

“I had no evidence but I found that his behaviour was very strange. I felt it was inappropriate. I couldn’t tell that he was a practicing paedophile, but I didn’t have to.”

However, Savile had already appeared on the show in 1984, 1987 and 1989 before Jones had come on board as the charity’s chairman.

Police are currently following more than 400 leads into claims from victims who have come forward in recent weeks with stories of abuse at the hands of Savile, following an ITV documentary and the furore over a shelved BBC Newsnight programme.
