In the lead-up to the sixth full-length record titled Flesh & Blood, the band have also announced their biggest European live tour which will see them kick off the tour in Ireland in late April and wrap it up in Italy in mid-May, stopping by London’s Brixton Academy on Wednesday, April 30 on the way.
It’s been four long years since the band released their last album, April Uprising, and in that time a line-up change has occurred, with percussionist Nicky Bomba leaving the band and Grant Gerathy stepping in for drumming duties.
Combining the band’s old strengths with new influences, Flesh & Blood features the uplifting and joyous brand new single Only One, and is touted as John Butler Trio’s most accomplished studio album to date, as well as one for both the good times and the bad, according to Butler: “I hope [fans] take it with them on a journey,” he said. “I hope it can be the soundtrack for some great moments in their life and some shit moments in their life and I hope it can be there for them at the ebb of their energy wave and at the crest of it. In the loud times and the quiet times.”
With a 16-year-strong career behind them, John Butler Trio have established themselves as one of Australia’s most successful bands of all time, having achieved platinum status many times over thanks to albums like Three [2001], Sunrise Over Sea [2004], Grand National [2007] and April Uprising [2010] – an amazing feat considering all releases since 2002 have been marketed independently by Jarrah Records.
