Whether you’re after something indoor or outdoor, strenuous or relaxing, there’s something for everyone who’s planning on sorting out their physical and mental imbalances in time for the summer. We work hard, people – it’s not surprising that we need an MOT every now and then.
Secluded Scottish national park:
You could always visit one of the UK’s national parks, such as Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. Cairngorm boasts one of the most impressive glacial landscapes outside of Canada, with granite tors and deposits from the Ice Ages. Alternatively, check out the North York Moors to enjoy contrasting heather moorlands, woodlands, and coastal cliffs. Just don’t ruin all your good work with a fish and chip dinner.
Devonshire yoga retreat:
Connect with your spiritual side and visit a yoga retreat for some stretching and meditation. There are many yoga retreats in the UK, such as The Forge Yoga Centre in Totnes, Devon or Buddhist centres, such as Yoga Jeanie in East Sussex, or Dhanakosa in the Scottish Highlands.
Go antiquing in Rye:
If you’re after a break that’ll soothe your frazzled nerves, get yourself down to Rye in East Sussex, one of the most complete medieval villages in the UK. Explore antique shops selling everything from glassware, frames and busts to desks and clothing. If you fancy a cycling tour around the Romney Marshes, this is an excellent rest-point. Enjoy some cake and tea in one of the cafes, or indulge in a seafood treat along the harbour. It sounds so wholesome; you may as well change your surname to ‘Walton’ after this break.

Get active in the Lake District:
Clear out the cobwebs with a cycling, hiking or water sports weekend. Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England and the perfect location for any active family, with a variety of water-based activities, including yachting or boating, as well as cycling, swimming, and hiking. Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland, hosts many water-based activities, including kayaking, canyoning and white water rafting. Finally, Penrith in Cumbria will be a breath-taking windswept location this January – one of the top places for exploring unspoilt British countryside. Penrith is also just three miles from the boundaries of the Lake District National Park, ideal for long walks and beautiful views.
Scottish Seaweed spa:
A number of new Seaweed spas have opened in the UK, such as Diana Drummond’s seaweed skincare spa in Scotland. Alternatively, why not try out the UK’s very first eco-spa, The Titanic, in the Pennines in West Yorkshire, which includes a green building, converted from an old mill, as well as its own water source, and exclusively organic and fair trade food.
