Jacob Marx, 27, a solicitor, suffered a huge heart attack after a 30-foot advertising hoarding for the betting company William Hill fell on him on Camden Road.
Mr Marx’s family are en-route to the UK from their home in Gisborne.
An investigation has been launched after witnesses claimed that the hoarding had been hanging loose for several weeks after it was dislodged by maintenance work, and was eventually blown off by strong winds.
Abdul Hai a Camden Council community safety spokesman said: “This is tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this sad time.
“Our health and safety and building control teams attended the scene immediately to take the necessary action to make sure there was no further danger to the public from the building.”
Marx’s brother David described him as “a wonderful person, a special part of our family, and a much loved friend and partner,” and thanked the emergency services in Camden: “It means a lot to us that, despite him being so far from home, people did their best to look after him.”
Mr Marx had been working in London for the law firm Minter Ellison Rudd Watts while he and his girlfriend planned the next step on their journey.
