Like her single The Show, which took pride of place on the Ugly Betty promo in the US, Melbourne actress turned tunesmith Lenka’s debut LP takes wistful melancholic themes and sugar-coats them with pretty, theatrical instrumentation
and cutie-pie vocals.
The effect is moreish on tunes Don’t Let Me Fail, Trouble and Knock Knock.
But while many of these tracks work well on their own, listening to the whole album in one sitting is a sugar rush too far.
