Kiara, a “liliger” was born to father Sam, an African lion, and her mother, Zita, a liger – a cross between a lion and a tiger. This makes Kiara, the world’s first known “liliger”.
Just to add a little more confusion into the mix, Kiara is being raised by an ordinary domestic cat because her mother could not provide enough milk to feed her hungry cub.
The Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia said the liliger was born in August. Lions and tigers are kept in the same enclosure and as a result Zita, the liger, was born. Her female cub Kiara will be available for viewing by the public as early as October.
“This cub has just started growing and develop, her character has not even formed yet. But I’m confident she will be a calm, confident, strong animal,” the head of the zoo’s cat section Roza Solovyova told Reuters.
