This morning Diamond became one of only three men ever to have shot a perfect score of 125 in the five rounds of qualifying.

The steady-handed Australian shot two perfect 25-from-25 rounds at the Royal Artillery Barracks to go with his three spotless rounds yesterday.

Diamond set the Olympic Record of 124 on his way to winning gold in Atlanta in 1996 and also claimed gold for shooting in Sydney.

“I’m elated at the moment. Finding out about the record is a very nice surprise,” Diamond, 40, said briefly before heading to a three-hour break before the final at 1am AEST.

Diamond takes a one-point lead into the final ahead of Kuwait’s Fehaid Aldeehani.
